mark-dayMark Day’s passion for food started in high school when he began working for Edith Isley, a prestigious Burlington caterer.  Mark mastered the fundamentals of cooking and the intricacies of gourmet detail under Isley’s mentorship.  In 1985, he worked at Fowler’s Gourmet, a specialty grocery store in Durham, where he furthered his knowledge of food, wine, and retail operation.  This led to the opening of his own highly-acclaimed bistro, Mark’s at Five Points (1987) and later, Mark’s New American Cuisine (1993).

In 1995, after eight years in the restaurant business, Mark sought new challenges.  He closed his restaurant to become personal chef to a prominent Chapel Hill – Palm Beach – Manhattan businessman and his family.  From there, he went on to found Mark Day Company in 1999.

Mark Day Company offers clients boutique catering, a brand of upscale catering that focuses on highly-attentive service, customized menus, and fresh, delicious food.  We work off-premise and serve throughout North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia.  Our range of experience includes all types of events, from casual and formal in-home dinners to weddings, business and university functions, and large-scale galas.

On August 6th, 2008, Mark received the National Association of Catering Executives (NACE) award for “Event of the Year.” This is the first NACE award ever to be presented to a North Carolina caterer. He was also voted Triangle Caterer of the Year in 2007 and 2009.
